The thing that matters most to me is family.
After that, two things that make me very happy are running and baking.
I am still amazed, given the bookish nature of my childhood, that I get such pleasure out of running. Even more, that I like doing it for very long periods of time, sometimes in the dark – I discovered trailrunning and ultras a while back and am forever grateful I can go and explore on foot the trails, mountains, dusty roads and wild corners of Australia. (That’s me in the shot above, during the UTA100 in the Blue Mountains in 2016.) The views are stunning, trail runners are wonderful people, and sometimes, in the tough moments or the dark of the night in long events, I find out a bit about myself.
And as for baking – there’s something lovely about being able to turn a bunch of simple ingredients into something you can share with others. I love baking, especially bread. Actually, I like baking bread, and talking about bread, and writing about bread, and eating bread. Preferably with a generous slather of salty butter.
It’s a good thing that when you run a lot, you need to eat a lot.
